"Akai kutsu" (Red Shoes) was composed by Nagayo Motoori 1921. This sad melody has lyrics that talk about a little girl with red shoes who has to leave Japan because her mother cannot afford to keep her, and she is being adopted by a foreigner. It is based on a true story.
